October Meeting and Tour
Decommissioning of the Zion Nuclear Plant

The Chicago Local Section of the American Industrial Hygiene Association would like to invite you to a half day presentation and tour on the decommissioning of the Zion Nuclear Plant in Zion, Illinois.  ZionSolutions, LLC, a subsidiary of EnergySolutions, is a special-purpose subsidiary formed specifically to deliver integrated services and solutions for the safe cleanup and environmental restoration of the Zion Nuclear Station site. Located approximately 60 miles north of Chicago on the banks of Lake Michigan, this power station operated from 1974–1998.  EnergySolutions has requested a license transfer from the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission (U.S. NRC) to take control of the facility during the entire decommissioning phase. Once the decommissioning project is complete, the license will be transferred, along with the land, back to Exelon Corporation. Come and learn about this interesting project.
